In July 2022, Whiting Landscape reached its 45-year anniversary milestone and thought what better way to celebrate than to have a Summer Party all together!

With lots of food, entertainment and beverages, a great party was had by all.

We also celebrated an esteemed colleagues 40 years’ service with the company. John Platt has continuously shown great dedication to Whitings since he started in 1982 and received his own plaque to commemorate his hard work and commitment to the business.

Here’s to the next 45 years and a cheers from all.

Last Friday, members of the Whiting Team volunteered their time to transform part of St Richards Hospices’ gardens.

We cleared a section of dead lawn and created a gravelled area ready for olive trees to be installed. This has transformed the space into another area for residents and staff to enjoy the beautiful grounds.

Our Managing Director, Wayne Bridges said “We had a fantastic day on Friday enhancing a section of the gardens at St Richards Hospice. We wanted to take this opportunity to show our support and appreciation for the amazing work all the staff at the hospice do. We are very proud to have contributed a small part to their beautiful grounds and hope the area provides a comforting space for all at the hospice.”

From unused items in our yard to a four-storey bug house.
Office employees and members of our Green Team stated that they would like to create a bug house to provide a home for insects, that will help to increase biodiversity, pollinate plants and prey on pests. So last month we took time away from our desks to install crates, wood, bark, and other items to keep these creatures happy in their new habitat.

As we were completing the house, we picked up some mulch from around the area and placed it on the top – within the mulch was a toad! We therefore named the bug house ‘Toad Hall’. It has had time to settle over the last 4 weeks and looking over it now, its full of different bugs. There is no sign of the toad currently but I’m sure that it is enjoying its new onsite restaurant!

It has been one week since our troops set off to complete their Three Peaks Challenge…
Despite the intense heat conditions and unforeseen traffic delays they managed to complete the challenge! A lot of team spirit, energy bars and most importantly water was required along the way.

As you can see from the images the views from the summits were fantastic which gave the team a huge lift after each gruelling climb.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored and sent words of encouragement to the team. They managed to raise over a whopping £4,000.00 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. A fantastic team effort!

On the 13th May 2022, Whitings and Prologis came together to create an outdoor space. Just short of 100 people went and got stuck into this project and the results certainly show the hard work and dedication put in by everyone.

The aim was to make a difference to the local residential area where people can enjoy the natural habitat.

The brief set out for the day was to introduce new picnic tables and benches alongside fencing for a new pond. Edging bonds were put in the new path and seeding was carried out on other areas. Prologis and Whitings worked together and split out into smaller teams with different tasks to complete.

Mark Spittle from Ultra Jet kindly organised a water tanker from Red Industries Sustainable Solutions who supplied and donated water for the pond, as well as helping throughout the day.

The sunshine was clearly on their side, and it proved to be a very hot but nevertheless rewarding day.

Take a look at some pictures captured on the day!

All of us here at Whiting Landscape are deeply saddened by the recent events in Ukraine. We wanted to find a way to show our support during this very awful time for them.  In order to do this, we found a local Church – Bromsgrove Baptist Church, who are working in connection with Barnabus fund. The local Church are taking donations and transporting them to Swindon, which are then shipped over to Ukraine to help those in need.

Over the past few weeks our staff have rallied together to donate valuable supplies they need such as blankets, warm clothing, tinned food, and energy bars.  We have gathered two large donations, the first of which was taken directly to the church.  The second, staff volunteered to fill one of our vans full of donations from both staff and donations that where made to the church and drive them to Swindon.

The entire team at Whiting Landscape hopes that the help and donations from staff will positively enable those people suffering from this humanitarian crisis within Ukraine when they need it the most.

Lauren joined Whiting Landscape in April 2021 as a Business Administration Apprentice where she works 75% of the week in the office and 25% on her Level 3 Business Administration course on campus. It is great for the business to have an Apprentice on board, bringing new ideas, a fresh perspective, and a willingness to learn to gain ‘hands on’ practical experience. We asked Lauren for feedback on how she is settling in, and she shared her thoughts with us:

‘I am thoroughly enjoying working with Whiting Landscape. They have enabled me to grow not only within the company but also as a person. The support I am continuously given is outstanding and I can see a very bright future here. I believe it is the best decision I ever made applying for an Apprenticeship and feel I have landed on my feet with this company. I have always been keen on the idea of Architecture from a young age, but the landscaping sector has opened my eyes to many more career avenues.’

Now that Autumn has arrived it is time to start thinking about your Winter Maintenance requirements. Whiting offers both snow clearance and gritting in addition to daily monitoring of the Met Office weather reports from October 1st to March 31st to track where conditions may worsen.
