Our Vision
As a business, Whiting Landscape are keen to ensure that land used by local communities and commercial activity is sustained for future generations. Our aim is to provide an attractive, relaxing and sustainable environment for those who work and live around the landscaped areas we install and maintain.
In 2007 we started our journey to become more environmentally aware as we successfully gained our ISO 14001 certification. We are committed to achieving our sustainability goals and to help us continue and improve these, we became a member of the Planet Mark community and received our first certification in 2020. Planet Mark have helped us reduce our carbon footprint by 20.4% so far and we plan to continue this process in the coming years as we work towards becoming Carbon Neutral. Our vision is to become Carbon Zero by 2040, 10 years ahead of the government target of 2050.

Our Plans
We recognise our activities, products and services can cause impacts on the environment – to the land, air and water around us. We are committed to protecting the environment by minimising the impacts of our operations.
We will continually strive to improve our environmental performance, meet our compliance obligations, and achieve our stated objectives. Management of Whiting Landscape regards the promotion and preservation of the environment as a mutual objective for staff at all levels, and therefore we encourage all members of our staff to think and act in an environmentally sustainable way.
Carbon reduction plan
To ensure that our organisation is moving forward in our aim to reduce our carbon footprint, we have created a carbon reduction plan. The plan is based on improvements within vehicle and equipment technology and improving infrastructure. We are also working with subcontractors and local supply chain partners to help them achieve their net zero targets.
Our Achievements
We are constantly trying to reduce our environmental impact, via projects such as:
- Solar panels fitted at our head office and warehouse.
- LED lighting has been installed in the office and warehouse.
- Hybrid/Electrical vehicles for staff.
- Electrical charging points have been fitted in our office and yard car parks.
- Reducing business travel by car sharing and promoting virtual meetings.
- Replacement of two stroke machinery in favour of battery powered tools.
- Installation of bug houses, beehives and bird boxes around our head office site.
- Water harvesting and abstraction in our nursery.
- Continue to reuse and recycle waste as much as possible.
In order for us to stay on track as a business and reach our sustainable targets we have implemented a ‘Green Team’ within the business. This has helped to encourage employees from all areas of the company to become engaged with our sustainability goals. Whilst we appreciate this is a global challenge, we hope to create sustainable future for Whiting Landscape. We will work along side our partners at Planet Mark to achieve continual improvement.
Supporting the Community
Our commitment to helping charities is long standing. As a company we not only care about our employees as a family but also what they hold close to them. We donate to around 30 different charities annually, such as St Richards Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Teenage Cancer Trust, Dementia UK, and many others, raising a substantial amount for each charity and donating many hours of our time.
We also carry out a large number of community projects each year, helping to create green spaces for many community organisations. This provides long lasting benefits to the environment, installing CO2 absorbing vegetation to improve air quality, encouraging wildlife to enter these areas by increasing biodiversity.
